General considerations about breakfast

by Oana

“Eat breakfast alone, share lunch with friends, and give dinner to enemies.” I also found this verse that I liked: “A rich breakfast gives you strength/ A rich lunch gives you pleasure/ A rich dinner gives you pain”. Over the years, studies on nutrition have been contradictory, one study’s conclusion was immediately refuted by another study, and sometimes concurrent studies reached completely different results. British scientists who simultaneously proved that fats are completely harmful, carbohydrates are lethal, and proteins are poison have always existed, and we could imagine that the most correct thing would be to feed on air and green grass. Or not at all, because the air is polluted and the grass contaminated. Or that it is best to eat 5 meals a day. Or maybe 3. Or more correctly it would be 2. Or best to fast, eat once every 2 days, or at sunset, or only at Full Moon.

The thing that most nutritionists and doctors agree on (not all, of course) is the importance of breakfast. If you ate properly in the evening, i.e. at least 3 hours before bed and you didn’t go to sleep like a gorged frog, in the morning, i.e. after 11-14 hours after your last meal and a good sleep, you need fuel. Breakfast sets the body for the whole day. Here you can satisfy some forbidden pleasures, you can make combinations that during the rest of the day are unfortunate (such as meat and eggs at the same table, a piece of cake that would be completely scandalous in the evening, bread with animal proteins, etc.), and the amount it depends on several factors: the movement to be made, the possibility of taking the next meal, if we have set a weight loss program, etc. Some people feel good with a fruit meal in the morning, it regulates their blood sugar and hydration. Others crave protein and leafy greens. Others want toast. It’s ok to alternate foods, not to have a stereotypical breakfast. The body needs diversity. The important thing is that it is something that tickles our taste buds properly, because as I said, breakfast sets the body for the rest of the day, and if we eat who knows what pickle that does not make us happy, our body will grumble all day.

When shall we have breakfast? Preferably in the first hour after waking up. After drinking a large cup or even 2 with water at room temperature, we prepare our dollop. Of course, then we don’t start making pies and meatballs, but we eat something that doesn’t take much time to prepare, 20-30 minutes at most, it depends on everyone’s available time. Good, tasty and nutritious food. And we don’t drink coffee on an empty stomach, OK?
