Bone broth

by Oana

Few know the beneficial effects of bone broth, including myself, until recently. But since I learned about its beneficial effects, I prepare it weekly.

What are these effects: Bone broth contains collagen, which heals the gut, skin, makes hair and nails grow faster and healthier, heals joints, reduces inflammation in the body. It also contains minerals such as magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, selenium, potassium and amino acids, which help the body function. Well, if it’s that good then let’s do it too, right?

How I prepare it: I take a kg of bones of any kind, chicken, pork or beef, with the mention that the pork or beef ones must be broken, with all the cartilage, put them in 5 liters of water, along with a spoon of vinegar, which helps to extract the minerals, and boil them, remove the foam, put the fire on low, put the lid on and let it boil for 6 hours. After 6 hours we have 3 liters of juice after removing the bones. What do we do with it? We can use it in many ways. It can be drunk as such, as a tea. I haven’t tried it, so I can’t tell you how it is. I saute an onion, a carrot, some celery and some mushrooms, all cut into large pieces, add them to the broth, add some salt, pepper and ginger powder and the soup is ready . Or once I took a big pork bone with meat on, I made sarmales out of the meat, and I broke the bone and boiled it with the skin. Then I put some vegetables on it, cut the pork skin into strips, beat an egg and it turned out a wonderful “belly soup”. Today I made dumpling soup: from one egg, a tablespoon of chicken lard and 2 tablespoons of rice flour, I got 12 fluffy, wonderful dumplings, I couldn’t wait for them to cool down so I could eat them. Put your imagination to the test and I’m sure you can prepare the miraculous bone broth in as many ways as possible, so that you can eat it as often as possible without getting bored.

As I said in the introduction to the blog, I want to give you healthy, gluten and dairy free, but also cheap food ideas. Unfortunately, gluten-free processed foods, in addition to being very hard to find, are also very expensive, and also contain many unhealthy additives. Better buy an avocado for 3-4 lei, a bag of karob for 4 lei, some fruits and nuts, a kg of rice flour for 11 lei, and prepare a healthy dessert at home. The same with meat: we are used to making soup from lean meat, which is expensive, when a kg of bones is a few lei and you can do wonders for your health.
