One of the stated purposes of this blog is to demonstrate, with my humble means (see how modest I am?) that anyone can cook, that you don’t have to be Jamie Oliver to be able to put tasty, balanced and healthy food on the table. As with any other skill, you just need determination, a bit of documentation and practice. What I love about cooking is that you don’t have to be a robot that just follows pre-set recipes. There are some basic rules and the rest… sky is the limit. You can play, you can improvise, you can create, invent, innovate, add to the basic recipes… the thing is that you never get bored in the kitchen. You can sit for hours cooking a crazy idea, chocolate with chili, chicken with orange jam or nachos with corn flour. Or you can quickly throw something in the oven, something that will be ready in the next 20 minutes while you shower and comb your hair. The idea is to know what is on your plate, your partner’s, your child’s. To cook at home and not consider it a chore, but to take it as a fact of life, or even as a “toy” with which to evolve, as children do.
Today I will present you an idea from the “to quickly put something on the table because I don’t have time and desire for more” category. I took a whole 1.6 kg chicken, cut it in half, removed the lean meat from the breast and left the bone and skin in place. No one here eats plain brisket, I’ll use it another time. I cut into thick pieces a carrot, a zucchini, a quarter of celery, a tomato and a few cloves of garlic, I put everything in the pan with a little water at the bottom of it, I seasoned it with salt, curry and chili and I started oven for 30 minutes at 220 degrees Celsius, steam function. Meanwhile I cut some fresh cucumbers, put salt, olive oil and vinegar on them. I would have made a salad, but I was too lazy.
